“Jesus wept
” (John 11:35).
And why did He weep? Did He weep for the friend who lies lifeless in the tomb? No! He wept at the unbelief of the living. The doubt, the fears, the troubled soul, and the anxiety would have faded with unwavering belief in the resurrection and the life; Jesus Christ.
And how powerful and preeminent is Christ to us? Avoid the despondency brought by doubt. Avoid the fear created by our faithlessness. Avoid the inner turmoil wrought by our fading trust. Believe. Believe on the mountaintop of spiritual triumph and in the valley of defeat. Believe when things are grand and when things are grieving. And when we each face trouble, trial; even death, may we enter with belief, courage, joy, and confidence. Keep believing, dear friend. “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Hebrews 13:8).
