“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalms 119:105).
There must first be an acknowledgment and full acceptance that it’s His word. We must firmly settle this truth in our own heart. His word is settled in heaven. His word is pure, perfect, preserved, and precise. Do you believe the Bible you hold in your hands is God’s preserved, inspired, and infallible written word? Then go to it. It will do you no good on the shelf.
God’s word is a lamp for our daily steps as well as a light for our future path. His word illuminates our mind and heart with perception, wisdom, knowledge, and discernment. His word comforts, consoles, and counsels. His word corrects, cuts, and curbs. Is your way covered in shadows? Do you need some light? Then turn to His word. And as you do, purpose to specifically know Jesus Christ. Seek Him and you’ll find Him. Jesus is the living Word and the wondrous Light. Here is the one key that will forever open your eyes to spiritual understanding.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God” (John 1:1-2).
“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
“In him was life; and the life was the light of men” (John 1:4).
“The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe” (John 1:7).
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
Too many read the scripture to appease the conscience or to simply fulfill a commitment. It is impersonal, lifeless, and ineffective. Jesus Christ is the solution for a dry soul. He is the answer for floundering faith. Resolve to know and love Christ and the written word of God will come alive. See and hear Him as you go to the Bible. As you do, His word will be a lamp and light. And Jesus will become your dearest and closest friend.
