The Mystery Revealed

And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak” (Ephesians 6:19-20).

The Apostle Paul requested that fellow believers pray for him. Specifically that he would have utterance or clear bold speech to make known the mystery of the gospel. And what is that mystery? Paul wrote of it earlier in this same epistle.

But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh. For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father” (Ephesians 2:13-18).

The revealed mystery of the gospel which was given to us through the Apostle Paul is simply this. The believing Jews and the believing Gentiles have become one in Christ through faith in His death on the cross, burial, and glorious resurrection. Through acceptance of this gospel the wall of separation has been removed. All people who believe in Jesus Christ now have access. All people who believe in Jesus Christ now have access by the same Spirit unto the Father. To my friends and believers in Christ throughout this world I say to you that we are one in Him through faith. We are not united by national heritage. We are not united by our culture. We are not united by our skin color. We are not united by our language, occupation, or education. We who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are one in Him.

We do not always agree nor will we. But this one thing holds true for each of us who believe the gospel. Christ is our peace. He has reconciled us to God by His cross. We are united in Christ. And by the same Spirit we have direct access to the Father in Heaven. I will never meet many of you in person this side of Heaven; but one day! One day this mortal body of ours will put on immortality. This corruptible will put on incorruption. Our politics will no longer matter. Our economic status will be gone. Our physical infirmities will vanish. Sin will be gone. What a day that will be when our Jesus we shall see.

Are we not also ambassadors of this truth? Are we not commissioned to open our mouths boldly and speak of the hope that lies within us? Pray for one another. Pray that utterance may be given so we can speak clearly and boldly of the Christ we love and the mystery which is now revealed through the gospel.

For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
