“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
This is one of my favorite Bible verses. I guess it’s because I’ve had so many “old things” that needed to pass away. With Christ all things become new! Have you had an anemic year spiritually? Perhaps there have been great triumphs and victories for you this year. Regardless of your failures or your successes, I exhort you to cling to the example set by Paul the Apostle.
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
Forget those things which are behind and by faith press on to the high calling of God which is in Christ Jesus. Let us purpose to know Christ this year and glory in the victory that is ours in Him. Claim His total forgiveness for all sin; past, present, and future. Appropriate and apply by faith the lasting power of His shed blood that has redeemed and justified us. We who were once the enemy of God are reconciled through Christ. There is no condemnation in Christ. All things are new.
Rise each day remembering the finished work of Christ. And let this glorious truth constrain you to know, love, and follow Him. Make this a year of growing in His grace and in the knowledge of Him. Be His arms, His feet, and His mouth. Be about His business. Unto Him be glory, both now and forever!
