The Good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).

What an amazing privilege and blessing is ours! Jesus does not simply show up when we need Him. He is not a hired hand who visits us once a week. He is always before us and He is always in us. Believer, we are the sheep of His pasture! We belong to Him. He is our Good Shepherd who promises to direct us into the paths of righteousness and to endless streams of living water. No! It is much better for us. He is our living water. He is our righteousness. He is our bread of life, our way, our truth, and our life. He is the door, the path and the light that illuminates the path. He is everything.

We can trust Him. We can follow Him in full confidence. Remember this great Biblical truth, beloved. He becomes the Good Shepherd to all who come to Him in faith, believing that He died for our sins, was buried, and rose from the grave on the third day. “But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep” (John 10:12).

What is the message? Beware of those hirelings (wage-workers, good or bad) who have forgotten they too are sheep and a fellow member of His body. Watch out for those hirelings who fail to faithfully direct you to Jesus Christ the great Bishop and Shepherd of our souls. Jesus is the Good Shepherd. “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine” (John 10:14).

As His sheep let us purpose to hear and follow Him. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me
