What is grace?

That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 5:21).

What an amazing truth. Grace reigns (rules) by and through the righteousness of Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Grace is by Jesus Christ before salvation and after. It’s the after salvation part that many have issues with.

Grace is always the unmerited favor of God. It is never earned. And the favor of God is constant. This is perpetually true soley because of the finished work of Christ. Grace is never contingent on performance, behavior, or acts of contrition. Grace is never something we earn. It is not something God gives more of when we confess our sin. Grace always abounds abundantly in the life of every believer.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” (Romans 6:1-2).

Here’s my application. We are now heirs to His amazing grace. What are we going to say to this? Are we going to sin just because grace continually abounds? Are you stupid!? Should we spit in the face of the grace giver? Think about it.
