One of the most erroneous and harmful teachings in some churches today is retribution theology. That if you do not straighten up God is going to get you. Really?
Is your view of God that shallow? God is perched on His throne watching for a sin, a mistake, or a stumble so He can rain down wrath and judgment.
We were actually told years ago if we left a certain church system we would lose our children to the world. And I suppose because there have been some who left and have dabbled in sin, those who remained proudly pound their chest as they say, “told you so!” Blind to the fact that even while in that church marriages are in trouble, youth have conflicts, and men stumble with lusts.
Retribution theology is a fear and control tactic. God is not like that. He gives immeasurable opportunity to obey Him. His mercy endures forever! Always full of love for His children. We’re the ones who write people off. Who judge others. But our judgment has been settled by Christ forever! Once and for all. This love, this mercy, this grace; constrains me to serve the God who has not visited us according to our iniquities. Be honest, if God was out to get us, we would all be goners.
