Choices

Ponder this. “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not” (1 Corinthians 10:23). There are rock solid absolutes in Holy Scripture on what not to do and what God calls sin. But there are also many things we are free to do. Things the Bible does not call sin but some Christians do. Some believers seem to care less! But the loving and mature believer will avoid certain things because it is not expedient or edifying to other believers. It does not direct others to Christ. Are your freedoms causing the weaker brother or sister confusion? Do your actions and lifestyle choices compel others to seek and know Jesus? Or is your attitude “I really don’t care what anyone else thinks?” It is always wise for us to forgo liberties for the purpose of edifying another. Examine yourself, and see if perhaps something you are doing hurts your effectiveness in the work of the Lord. Be willing to stop for the edification of another.
