A New Commandment
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another
” (John 13:34-35).
Our love for one another is a visible and powerful testimony to the sufficiency of Christ. Why? It’s because the lost world will truly know that we are the Disciples of Jesus Christ through our love, unity, and oneness with each other. We will not always agree. People are different. But our love for one another in spite of those disagreements is evidence that Christ has changed our heart.
The clearest mark of true discipleship is the love we have for one another. We are brothers and sisters in Christ. “For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fulness of God” (Ephesians 3:14–19). Love, know, and follow Jesus Christ.
