Planted to Grow
“Rooted and built up in him…” (Colossians 2:7).
Rooted denotes that we are first planted and grounded. Rooted denotes the beginning of new life. Built up denotes growth, maturity, and development. The principle of being rooted and built up has broad application. We can be rooted and built up in our marriage. We can be rooted and built up in our family relationships. We can be rooted and built up in our career, our knowledge, our good character, and even our physical stature. We can be rooted and built up in church ministry, Biblical studies, or outreach to the lost.
Dear friend do not neglect to accurately apply the scripture. Our edification is to specifically be rooted and built up in Christ. Have you been grounded and planted in Christ through faith in His death for your sins, burial, and glorious resurrection? Are you being built up in Him? Are you growing, maturing in, and developing intimacy with Jesus Christ. Hear the exhortation today. “Rooted and built up in him….”
This planting and growing relationship with Christ empowers our life. It turns our focus to the one who completes our life. It glorifies the one who matters. It prioritizes our activity. “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen” (2 Peter 3:18). Purpose to see Him and know Him in the written word. Talk with Him in prayer. Walk with Him in faith. Look to Him. Know Him.
